This is the fourth year that Halifax joins other cities in Canada and the United States in celebrating Asian Heritage Month.   In sharing their heritage and culture with other Nova Scotians the Asian Canadians hope to promote better understanding and appreciation of the Asian Canadian community.

 

Official Opening Ceremony

Proclamation of Asian Heritage Month by Mayor Peter J. Kelly, Halifax Regional Municipality.   Cultural performances and displays by members of some Asian organizations.

Lecturer:         Dr. Marie Elwood.   Dr. Elwood is the former Chief Curator of

History, Nova Scotia Museum (1973-93), and a lecturer at the Nova Scotia college of Art and Design, Department of Art History, 1995 to the present.

 

Samples of Asian textiles, lacquer, jade, hard stones, ivory and porcelain will be used in the presentation.
